While Makrinitsa in Pelion remains as enchanting as ever,...
While Makrinitsa in Pelion remains as enchanting as ever, it's crucial to highlight the aftermath of the 2023 flood, which has left the roads from Volos to the village in disrepair. Navigating these roads, particularly at night, can be perilous, warranting caution and attention from travelers, especially those with cars. Despite this challenge, Makrinitsa's beauty perseveres, offering a worthwhile destination for those willing to plan their journey with care.

Amazing place, Makrinitsa is the jewel in the Pelion...
Amazing place, Makrinitsa is the jewel in the Pelion mountain. It's only 12 or so kilometers from Volos and is easily accessible by car. However, keep in mind that the village is a strictly pedestrian area, so finding a parking spot in the parking at the village entrance could be a challenge. Get there early to beat the crowds and maybe you'll get lucky.
There are a number of very good traditional Greek tavernas that you absolutely need to visit, many souvenir shops you can spend a few euros at, and a wonderful cafe with the best portokalopita and karidopita you can find.
And last but certainly not least, Makrinitsa and the mountain Pelion offer many hiking treks you can follow.

Beautiful place but a bit "commercial"!
Beautiful place but a bit "commercial"! It depends on the style of holiday that you want to have. In case you want to have the trail in your holiday maybe you have to consider also visiting the other side of Pelion. Makrinitsa is close also to Volos in case you want to have a drink or taste local food. Overall a beautiful place to have a short trip!

Excellent views from almost every point in the village.
Excellent views from almost every point in the village. Tons of character, with the cobble paths and the traditional houses. Just a note, getting around the upper part of the village is a proper hike. Everything you need (restaurants, shops etc) are on the lower part though so no worries :)
Makrinitsa Village is a perfect 10 out of 10! The family running this hotel is absolutely amazing. Voula is incredibly friendly and accommodating; it's always easy to communicate with her. The room is spacious with breathtaking views. The owner provides firewood for the fireplace, allowing guests to enjoy cozy evenings by the fire. The entire house is stylishly decorated with a design that truly captivates the heart. Everything was superb, and I will always fondly remember our stay at this wonderful hotel.
The location was OK but be prepared for a nasty drive with a lot of turns. Not the hotel's fault - it's just the village is in the mountain. Also the village center might be close in a straight line but in reality it's 20+ minutes walking uphill on a narrow road with a lot of turns and a lot of cars.
The rooms were alright. I would say not the best value for money but everything was fine. We skipped breakfast because we woke up early to catch a ferry.
From the moment I stepped into the lobby, I knew my stay at this hotel would be something special. The staff greeted me with warm smiles and an efficiency that spoke of their professionalism. The check-in process was smooth, and I was pleasantly surprised by a great breakfast in the morning. The hotel has a stunning view and it sits in the heart of the town, magical place. Thank you Kiki for the warm welcome and the evening drinks with homemade liquor!
The breakfasts were really lovely. A little different every day and there was always something freshly baked or prepared by our hostess, who was so friendly and full of answers to all of our questions. The inn was thoughtfully decorated and modernized without sacrificing the special quality of the Pelion region. We especially loved the night that we returned early and got to visit with all of the members of the family over tea and homemade snacks.
Pilioritiko Spiti is located in the centre of Makrinitsa which made our stay comfortable . The room was very cozy with a fantastic view over the sea and the main street of the village. The host Aggeliki, was very friendly, happy to answer questions and provide information. The breakfast she served was delicious. The place overall is worthwhile to stay and spent quality holidays in a traditional space .
Hotel Petrino is located between two beautiful villages of mount Pelion. From our room we had amazing view of Makrinitsa, the most beautiful village of Pelion. Katerinana Cleanthes, the hosts were very helpful, very polite, very friendly and made you feel like home! The breakfast was excellent! The rooms were very well decorated and were very clean! I strongly recomend the hotel to travellers to Pelion!
The location is fantastic in a corner of heaven. Located in center Makrinitsa, a mountain village overlooking Volos and the sea, the view is spectacular. Around there are trees as old as the world itself....
The hosts are amazing people, I loved the room and the breakfast is very good 😊. We were three people and a border collie and I will definitely come back again ❤️.
We loved the location, the view of the city of Volos was very clear and the river below the hotel was the only sound we could here. It is such a serene place and the rest here feels like being in a dream. The breakfast was amazing! Homemade, fresh and so delicious! Everyone of the staff was very polite, attentive and helpful.
Amazing place in amazing village. Romantic trip in the past, fantastic view, uniqie home-like atmosphere, with attention to every single detail. The breakfast was an uniqie experience - a cosy terrace and home-made food and personal attention to every guest by the hotel manager. Just amazing!
The house is big and cosy and can easily accommodate 6-10 people. We liked sitting around the fireplace and there is an incredible view. It was very clean and warm and whatever we needed we could call John to assist. Makrinitsa is a beautiful village and is quite close on foot.
The hotel is in a very nice location, very near the centra square, and 11km from Volos. There is a small sauna in the room! The views and the breakfast are amazing, and the owner arranged for me to do the check-in later, after the reception had closed. A perfect stay.
The owner personally cooked breakfast for us... and another 15 people judging by the amount of food she put on our tables :) She gave us lots of interesting suggestions on what to visit in Pelion. The place is in an excellent location and it has an amazing view.
Kiki, the owner, was the most welcoming and friendly host that we ever met in Greece. She made us dinner reservations, gave us a choice of rooms to stay in and offered us welcome drinks after we were settled. She is truly the best!
This was our favourite place to stay while in Greece. Set in a beautiful wee village with amazing views. The breakfast was something we'd never tried before and really tasty. The taverna right next to it served the most yummy food!
