FAQs about hotels in Melbourne

Buzzy Jewel of Aussie Rules

A thoroughly liveable city, Melbourne has a buzzy vibe and an Aussie sense of fun. There’s always something going on, and one of its many festivals is Moomba – Australia’s largest free arts festival. Well worth a visit are the National Gallery of Victoria and the Melbourne Aquarium, whose highlight is walking through a clear tunnel as sharks swim over your head.

The city’s most recognisable landmark is Flinders Street Station, whose yellow and green façade matches the colour of the historic Melbourne trams that still run around the world’s longest tram network. Keep an eye out for the street art as you travel.

Shopping in Melbourne is fantastic. Queen Victoria Market is the largest open-air market south of the Equator, while the La Trobe Street shopping centre has over 300 stores. For food, don’t miss Little Italy - the Carlton area.

South of the Yarra River is St Kilda, home to the best beach and Albert Park, where the F1 Australian Grand Prix is held. However, this is not the city’s only sporting heritage. It’s also the home of Aussie Rules football and the MCG, a must-see for cricket fans.

Booking.com has a range of Melbourne accommodation from hotels to hostels and motels, some near Melbourne Airport.

Its so easy to get around Melbourne. Trains, trams never seem to stop. Great place to eat is Abbey Rd in St Kilda, then take a walk down Ackland Rd and gain kilo's just looking in the windows of the many cake shops along there!! Must visit St Kilda Beach, Chinatown, and Shrine of Remembrance. See a show or two there's always something on

I loved the free trams to take you all around the city centre. Where we stayed in Southbank was so close to everything, 5 min walk to supermarkets, train, trams, attractions, restaurants etc. I also loved all the old architecture in Melbourne. The city has preserved the past for the future generations to see.

Melbourne is great but the hotel IBIS was a disgrace, no milk in fridge, no glasses to drink from only 2 mugs, no napkins or tea towel, no hand towels or face towels, small bath towels. Shower head not working properly, no soaps only body wash. no space in the so called bathroom to dry of, had to dry of in the living area, no where to hang towels. Living area no table and chairs to sit at, had to lie on the bed to watch television. only 1 small side cupboard at side of bed nothing other side. Staff were not interested in doing anything about the shower , just smiled and said we will look into it. The picture of the hotel in the add is not the hotel but Flinders street Station. We are totaly dissapointed, it made our stay in Melbourne very very unpleasant. After some 20 years plus of using Booking.com. this is only our 3 complaint. I feel we should be seeking a refund this time. The Hotel is more for a 1 night stay for 1 person, With kind Regards, IAN AND PAM PEMBER W.A.

I was there for business so did a little shopping but did not have time for sight seeing. Heaps of restaurants and theatres. Would have liked to go to some of the tourist attractions like old Melbourne Gaol or Melbourne Zoo, but did not have time. Used the trams to get around.

    Stayed in the CBD.

Stayed in the CBD. Found the city to be quite welcoming and friendly. I did not experience or witness anything violent. Transport by Sky Bus to and from Hotel was simple. Hotel was close enough to most CBD attractions by foot and public transport. Most Trams in CBD are free and there is a Tram that does a circle loop of the CBD and stops near most close by CBD attractions. City come alive on Friday and Saturday night, so getting a table to eat at was a bit of a challenge. Otherwise, a great time.

The location is perfect. Situated in the heart of the CBD. Tram stop out at the front door which makes it easy to get around the city. The rooms are quiet generous in size. Blossom’s Roof top bar make delicious pizza’s which go down well with a cocktail and the staff are very helpful. We travel to Melbourne every year to watch footy and have stayed at a lot of different hotels. There is lots of walking involved to get to them. I think we have found the perfect location. This is our second stay here and I know we will return again.

Nice location, but because of building Metro Tunnel not convinient to walk to CBD. Use tram and dont forget to buy maky - it is not freezone and you can not pay by card in public transport, as in Sydney. The staff is very warm and friednly. You can ask early check in or left your luggage in storage room for free. They have iron and hair dryer, but it placed in the hall. For current price the hotel has decent facitilities.

The location is excellent, near Southern Cross and it's also within the free tram zone line in Melbourne CBD. Very easy to navigate. The facilities and the rooms are clean. They have a locker storage for travelers who arrived earlier than their check-in time or for those who have to check-out a tad bit earlier and have to leave their stuff in one place. Great location for walking in all directions around Melbourne CBD. Very close to the Vic Markets and Southern Cross Station. Very clean rooms. Friendly, helpful staff. We stayed in the attached apartments building rather than the hotel so it was a bit more like an air b'n'b experience. While not in the center of the CBD, this hotel is located on a lovely park as well as on the #30 and #35 tram lines and the Flagstaff station. This makes it easy to access all parts of Melbourne. A huge plus is that Jazz Corner is a short walk from the Quenn Victoria Market. The rooms are upscale and well appointed, and include an in-room washer and dryer.
